Vertical gardening is one of the best ways to utilize a lot of space in your backyard. It comes in handy for anyone without enough space for a large garden or simply wants to add a lot of plants in a large garden. Here are some of the best vertical gardening tips to make it last for a long time.

The Entrance

Your garden entrance will make the first impression to anyone going in and that’s where you should consider setting up a lot of climbers. You can mix and match colors to your own preferences but make sure everyone who walks through the entrance, has something good to say about it.

Permanency Of The Structures

Do you only get a few hours of sun every day in your garden? Are you renting it? Are there any access or mobility challenges on your part? Well, you need to consider the permanency of the vertical structures you’re using for it.

If you’re planning on clearing out the garden after a while, you should choose lightweight materials that can be repositioned, removed or moved around easily. That way, if you need the plants to get enough sun, you can move them effortlessly.

Shade

Depending on where you plant the climbers, they might grow too high and block the sun from reaching the plans below. To prevent this conundrum, you can place arbors or teepees to shade the plants below and make sure they are getting enough sun.

Keep in mind that some plants can tolerate shade so you can plant vegetables in the spaces for the best results.

The Best Plants

Are you thinking about planting creepers or vines to create privacy in your backyard? You need to consider the type of plant you want to grow and whether it should have access for pruning. That way, you can have an easy time getting to the top and getting it the trimming it requires.

Do your own research to find out the suitable height for the plant and the maintenance required as it grows. That way, you can get the best privacy and screening from the plants without creating more work.

Choosing Vertical Structures

Don’t waste fences or walls that act as blank canvasses for displaying or growing your vertical garden. If it’s hard to drill into the front part of the gate or fence, you can add some hooks with planters on the top. You can also attach some signs or artwork to create some inspiration.

Hanging Planters And Window Boxes

Since they are placed overhead, they should always be attached securely to prevent any accidents.

Don’t hang overweight items and consider using plastic or light wire. Otherwise, you can install them on the perimeter of the entire structure, especially since the building has been designed to have proper strength around these areas.

Keep in mind that hanging baskets and window boxes are long and narrow and hold a little amount of soil. So you should consider using them for seasonal displays but remember to refresh them as often as possible.
